Lion City Rising

Artist statement: "Lion City Rising" is my ongoing chronicle of Singapore as a dynamic, evolving entity. Initiated in 2012, this project aims to unveil the story of a city in constant reinvention. By consistently returning to the same vantage points over the years, I compress the relentless cycles of construction, demolition, and daily life, enabling audiences to witness reality on an entirely different timescale—frequently 10 to 20 million times faster than life's true pace. This is an invitation to look beyond the immediate moment and observe the changes we create, and in turn, inhabit. I envision this project continuing for decades, allowing me to seamlessly integrate past and future footage for even deeper time compression, thereby fostering a sense of wonder at where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed.
