Small Worlds

Artist statement: With my "Small Worlds" project (2008-2014), I harnessed the illusion of miniaturization to reignite a sense of childlike wonder. My key discovery was that making subjects move like miniatures is just as crucial as making them look small through selective focus. Through specific recipes for image capture and playback timing, I transformed real-world scenes: boats bounce like bathtub toys, cars race like slot cars, and crowds march like stop-motion armies. These films, first launched in 2008 within my "Bathtub" series, became a viral sensation, pioneering a filmmaking technique now widely imitated. The method itself has truly grown larger than my individual body of work.
